Waterproofing of road surfaces

In the construction of road surfaces, bitumen roll materials, bitumen-polymeric sealants and mastics, polymeric membranes are used. Their main difference from waterproofing roofing materials and materials for waterproofing foundations is a higher requirement for the quality of the material, and a difference in the type of sprinkling.

Rolling bituminous materials for waterproofing roads:

Type – 1 (SBS modified, cold laying) are bituminous materials with the addition of SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) modifier, these materials when laying in road clothes require an additional concrete protective layer or are used for laying cold asphalt mix. This type includes materials such as Technoelastmost B, Mostostol 100.

Type – 2 (APP modified, hot laying) – this bitumen roll materials with the addition of APO (alpha-polyolefin) modifier, which allows you to lay the asphalt concrete mixture directly on the waterproofing material. The following materials belong to this type: Technoelastmost C, Mostoplast, Mostostyle 130, Mostoizol 140.

Other materials for waterproofing roads and bridges:

Bentonite mats are also widely used in the sealing of road surfaces and aerodromes. This material consists of bentonite granules located between the geotextile webs. The main advantage of this material over other waterproofing materials is that when punctured, the bentonite mat is self-healing. This is due to the properties of bentonite clay, which when water hits the clay expands and forms a waterproof gel. Bentonite mats are laid between layers of pavement under the load.
